AKABOHA II

MDCC HISTORY

Akaboha I The late Prophet Jemisimiham Jehu-Appiah (formerly Joseph William Egyanka Appiah) 1892 - 1948 was a co- founder of the Musama Disco Christo Church with his wife. He was born fifth of his parents' seven children a native of Abura Edumfa two years before the Prempeh war in then Gold Coast, now Ghana.

He became a Teacher-Catechist of the Methodist Church. Whilst stationed at Gomoa Dunkwa in 1919 under Apam Circuit Pastor, Rev Ernest Bruce, he had the intuition to fast and pray for faith of miracles. He and his friend J. E. Morgan were inspired by the scripture “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matt. 7:7). They were encouraged also by the example of the late Samuel Yankson who was then another prophet at Gomoa Onyawonsu and doing many miracles in the name of Jesus.

In 1919, whilst on transfer at Gomoa Oguan in the Gold Coast, his fasting and prayer group became known as the Faith Society. God working through him made him work many miracles and give prophecies. On 19 October, 1992 J W E Appiah established a church under the name Musama Disco Christo Church. Prophet Jehu-Appiah was a patriot and a politician and an Executive Member of the defunct Aborigines Rights Protection Society. He was a great friend of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first Prime Minister of Ghana and other nationalists and patriots. These included Lawyer W. E. G. Sekyi. As a patriot, it was not surprising that he founded a Church structured on African cultural elements. He was ambitious to overthrow and succeeded in overthrowing idolatry and heathenism in many communities in then Gold Coast. He died on Thursday, 23 September 1948. leaving behind a wife and seven sons.

Akatitibi I The late Prophetess Nathalomoa Jehu-Appiah, formerly (Hannah Barnes) (1902-1979), wife of the Akaboha I. She came from a pagan family in Gomoa Oguan in the Central Region of the then Gold Coast, now Ghana. She was converted into the Faith Society on 30 May 1920 by the founder, who later became her husband. She had been a singer and a dancer for a heathen performing group at Gomoa Oguan called Boadze. She soon became a leading member of the Faith Society and distinguished herself in spiritual activities and many prophetic utterances. She saw many visions, and fell often into trance and gave vivid descriptions of heaven. Among her numerous prophecies, she told of the future popularity of the Musama Church and the birth of her son who became the Akaboha II. She also prophesied that her husband, Akaboha I would be publicly initiated three times by the Holy Spirit to prove the fullness of his spiritual attainment as founder of a Pentecostal Church. The Akaboha I was in deed publicly baptised in the Camp with a lump of crystal-water from above as prophesied. The water was both sweet and fragrant and many witnessed this in amazement. This took place on 31 October 1921 and 20 March, 1922 at Gomoa Oguan and 21 March 1924 at Gomoa Onyanwonsu. She was the founder and Life patroness of the Nathalomoa Band, the Women's Society in the Church. She spent a great deal of her lifetime giving herself to prayer and fasting and engaged in counselling with the faithful members of the Church. She was Akatitibi from 1924-1979. She reigned with Akaboha I, Akaboha II and with Akaboha III for seven years. Akaboha II.

The late Prophet Dr Mathapoly Moses Jehu-Appiah (1924-1972), son of the Akaboha I and Akatitibi I. Because of the prophecy about his birth, his native name as Kwesi Nyamekye, meaning Sunday born boy God’s gift. In fulfilment of prophecy, he became the General Head Prophet to succeed his father on 8 December 1948. Besides many societies and bands he instituted within the Church; the Prophet formed the "Friends of the Thorns" formerly the "White Circle Brotherhood" which caters for the spiritual growth of the youth. He was very knowledgeable about the existence of angels, witchcraft, ghosts, flying saucers and gave talks on his findings. He visited Rome, the Holy Land, America, Canada, Britain, Switzerland and Spain on research on religious and spiritual issues. He was the first President of the Aggrey Old Boys' Association of Ghana; first President of the Pentecostal Association of Ghana (now General Council For Pentecostal Churches); the first Life Chairman of the Musama Young Crusaders Association; first Dean of the White Circle Brotherhood (later the Friends of the Thorns).

He brought the Musamans from old Mozano in 1951 and built a new township with them with a ‘Holy Place that housed the Ark’. He introduced instant miraculous healing in 1954. He had evangelized and won many souls in several parts of the country and counselled thousands of people personally. In his Welcome Address to the Peaceful Year Celebration, Mozano, 1959, he said "I have never 'destroyed' any law that my father laid down for the Church but have 'fulfilled' them. I have been very jealous of the valuable and divine heritage the Holy Spirit gave the Church through my late father and I have been able to preserve them. The greatest success of every good society is to operate under this motive "Quality not Quantity". I call on all officers of the Church to half and take a stock of their stewardship. Are there chaffs to be fanned away? I have effected some slight modifications in the Discipline of the Church which to the civilised, the idea is known to be 'polished the Church' and to the uncivilised it is a taboo and a disgrace to the members. As a leader, I always view the future of the Church and make it more assimilating to the universal purpose of her message".

The Akaboha II was a devoted man of sharp wit and his breadth of perspective, turned many a doubter into an admirer. Pursuant of more knowledge, he confined himself with fasting and prayers for six and half months from April to October 1970. Like his father, he was not found wanting in politics and was a good counsellor to many a politician, including the late Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. He died on 28 August 1972. Professor Kofi Asare Opoku said in a tribute to him: "He (the Akaboha II) was thoroughly dedicated to his work as a Prophet and was at home with the high and low. It took a man with an immense dose of inner peace to have been able to accomplish this. This inner peace with which Nana was so richly endowed, was certainly a gift of the Spirit; but that was not the only one. His Spiritual gifts were many - wisdom, knowledge, faith, gift of healing, working of miracles, gift of prophecy and discerning of spirits and interpretation of tongues. All these gifts were at his disposal and with them he pursued his life's mission, in the service of the Lord with single-minded devotion and tenacity of purpose. In a tribute to him, he was described by the Church at the time of his death as "a good, honest, confident powerful and efficient leader. A leader who understands the young and the old, the sick and healthy, the poor and the rich, the noble and the simple, the spiritualist and the atheist. His sterling qualities of a responsible leader have left an indelible mark in the history of the Church. His utterance both spiritual or other made him a Prophet whose name and work shall be a living memory to the present and future generations to emulate".

Akatitibi II Prophetess Mathabinaia Jehu-Appiah
Akatitibi II Prophetess Mathabinaia Jehu-Appiah, was born a spiritual wife to the Akaboha II at Gomoa Onyanwonsu on 19 September 1925 through pophecy. Her parents, the late Rev Fubanahuba Eshun and Prophetess Kupabinaia Eshun from Mumford near Apam in the then Gold Coast, had the misfortune of losing every child born to them. They therefore enrolled as members of the Faith Society, (later called the Musama Disco Christo Church) for help. Whilst there, they were assured that God would give them a child who would live to become an adult. Specifically, a prophecy was given that a female child would be born to them and that the child would be the wife and helper of the Akaboha 11, who was then only three months old. This prophecy was fulfilled at Gomoa Onyanwonsu, Gold Coast when a daughter was born to them some ten months later on 25 September 1925. She was named Ama Segua Nyame Yie, meaning "Saturday born girl called Segua - God is good." She became the wife of Prophet Dr Mathapoly Moses Jehu-Appiah, Akaboha II just as had been prophesied. She studied under her mother, Prophetess Kupabinaia Eshun (who died in 1966 and was described in the 1967 I'Odomey Conference Extracts ad the "foremost and best midwife of the Church."). For many years she was in charge of the Jehunano Family under her later mother-in-law, Akatitibi I and her late husband Akaboha II. She is a chief Patroness of the Mother Choir of MDCC and Life Patroness of the Nathalomoa Band. She is Counsellor and teacher to the Prophetesses of the Church. Like her mother she is a renowned traditional birth attendant/midwife. She became the Akatitibi II on Saturday, 11 July 1987 eight years after the death of the Akatitibi I. As Akatitibi II and mother of the Akaboha III, she is the private counsellor of the Akaboha III.

Akaboha III Prophet Dr. Miritaiah Jonah Jehu-Appiah (Nana Kwame Appiah)
Akaboha III Prophet Dr. Miritaiah Jonah Jehu-Appiah (Nana Kwame Appiah) was born eldest child to Akaboha 11 and the Akatitibi 11 on 26 May 1945 at Fomena, Gold Coast. He was educated at at the Government Secondary School at Apam from 1960-1965. After this, he worked as a Records Supervisor at the Central Revenue Department in 1966. later, he taught French, Bible Knowledge and a Science at the Christian Methodist Secondary School Annex, Accra (now Trinity Secondary School). In 1967 he took appointment as a pioneer teacher at the Ghana High School where he developed an interest in teaching. He therefore enrolled at the Teacher Training College at Assin Foso and did a two year Post-Secondary Course from 1969-1971. At the Training College he became the National Vice-President of the Voluntary Workcamps Association of Ghana and was a staunch member of the Scripture Union. Upon completion of the Two-Year Post-Secondary Course, he was posted to Koforidua where he taught for one year as a Trained Post-Secondary Certificate 'A' Teacher. He took a keen interest in sports and games and won many awards. He also loved teaching and was profoundly loved by his school children. It was whilst he was serving as a teacher at Koforidua that his father died and the mantle fell upon him to become the next leader of the Musama Disco Christo Church. As an educationist, his stress on education has made Mozano a town with many schools. Today, there are in Mozano, a nursery and Kindergarten, Primary School and the Junior and Senior Secondary Schools, and a School of Music, in addition to the Primary School and the pastoral Seminary he came to meet. He has encouraged various apprenticeships in hairdressing, sewing, carpentry and masonry in Mozano. He has encouraged many schools, mainly Primary and Junior Secondary Schools to be established by the Circuits and Districts of the Church by giving Grants and Loans to those Circuits and Districts to assist them in their school projects. Apart from these scholarships have been given to members and pastors to go for further studies in Secondary Schools, various apprenticeships, the National Academy of Music, now the University College of Education at Winneba and at the University of Ghana. He himself was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Divinity by the Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Monrovia, Liberia on 9 December 1981. His teaching on moderation in the polygamous marriages in traditional African communities is beginning today to become the norm. In fact during the I'Odomey Conference of 1997, he told the Conference that the key to rediscovering the spiritual heritage of Christians and the answer to the problems of the Churches is for them to pay more attention to the quality of their family lives. This he said has bearing on the physical, other social, mental and spiritual lives on world peace. This was easily accepted and the lively discussions generated thereafter made the Conference decide to adopt the content of a letter - Move to Decency in Marriage, written and signed on 19 June 1969 by Akaboha II but not officially distributed. The chronology of his very active participation in the work of the Church and later as Akaboha may be reported as follows:

1966-1972. He was the brain behind the formation of the Musama Young Crusaders Association (MYCA), now Musama Young Crusaders.
